I had a swarm trap that I had set up just for such a purpose that was only two feet away from the swarm. I guess bees just go where they want to. I was able to catch the queen and put her in a empty hive. I am going to grow them in my parking strip in front of my house. Artichokes usally last about 3 years in Utah.
