Auto-claving peatmoss

Tonight I decided to plant some more artichokes. This is a different variety than the other artichokes that I have planted previously.

I decided to use a perlite/peat mix to start the seeds in. I also auto-claved the soil. I seem to have less problems with damping off and pest issues when I do this.

Last night I planted artichokes indoors. I am going to grow them in my parking strip in front of my house. Artichokes usally last about 3 years in Utah. If you expose them to cold before you transplant them then they will produce artichokes the first year. Otherwise you have to wait for them to overwinter before they produce.
