Top Bar Hive
Last week my neighbor gave me a scrape piece of ply-wood that she had. I decided to make a top bar hive from it. A
top bar hive is basically a box with wood strips along the top for the bees to build their honeycomb on. I covered the wooden strips with this piece of ply-wood to keep the weather out of the hive. I waxed on a small piece of wax foundation onto the wood strips so that the bees would have a place to start building their honeycomb.
The hive only took me about 2 hours to make and I used material that I had found around my house. Some of the top bars I made from an abandon pallet that I procured.
The bees have built up quit a bit of honeycomb on this one bar for only working on it for one week.
